The Nigerian airports in 2013 witnessed massive growth in the number of mail movements transported through it by agents.
The third quarter statistics of 2013 obtained from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, indicated that the nation’s airports recorded a total of 1, 718, 481, 34kg of mail movements in the period.
In the same period in 2012, the airports recorded 1, 133, 486kg.
The General Manager, Corporate Communications, FAAN, Mr. Yakubu Dati attributed the growth in the mail movements to the massive investment in the transformation of the nation’s airports.
Dati noted that the transformation has led to the reliance of courier companies on air transport, which is a safer and faster means of transportation.
He added
, “The aviation transformation is a key component of the Aviation Master Plan initiated by Princess Stella Oduah, Minister of Aviation.
“It is designed to modernise all the 22 airports terminals in the country towards restructuring them as centre point of economic activity and investor’s destination.”
