N225M CARS: GROUP SAYS ODUAH DID NOT ERR

An international human rights group, Global Peace Movement International, on Tuesday urged President Goodluck Jonathan to jettison calls for the sack of aviation minister, Stella Oduah, over controversies surrounding the N225 million bullet proof vehicles procured by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
The human rights group said it has carried out tailed investigations, which revealed that the cars were not purchased but leased to aviation authorities as special utility vehicles procured for the use of very important persons who visit Nigeria on assignment for the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Speaking at the briefing in Lagos, the president general of Global Peace Movement International, Mike Uyi, said, “Oduah should not resign her position as minister on account of allegations that have not been sufficiently established with documentary evidence”.
He said the committees that have so far investigated the controversies surrounding the procurement of the vehicles have not come out to state categorically the supposed amount for the cars except that they have noted that there was breach of due process in the deal.
Uyi categorically stated that the controversy generated by the allegation of the corruption against the minister is the “handiwork of entrenched interests who are opposed to the transformation going on in the industry”.
Nigeria’s aviation sector is gaining ground in diaspora.
Dr. Olumuyiwa Babatunde Aliu of Nigeria. ICAO president
We just had the first African president of ICAO in person of Olumuyiwa Babatunde Aliu. President Goodluck Jonathan will be doing himself harm if he removes Oduah.
“How can you say that a country that has produce ICAO president has a minister who did not go to school? It is stupidity in the highest order. No panel set up so far indicted her with valid evidence”.

He said the energy deployed to draw attention to the alleged corrupt practice by Oduah should be channeled towards developing the aviation sector, which the minister has tried to turn around.
